Claire Steiner, GTTP UK

A CIPD qualified HR & Training Consultant, Claire has over 16 years working in the HR and Training field, predominantly in the travel and tourism industry. This includes seven years as Head of HR for the Travelbag Group and since 2004 as a freelance consultant working with a variety of clients including ABTA, lastminute.com, Taxi Media and the NHS. She was named as Director, GTTP UK, in 2010.

Claire has been a member of the board of The Institute of Travel and Tourism (ITT) and member and chair of ITT’s Education and Training Committee since 2005. The Institute of Travel and Tourism (ITT) manages GTTP UK as part of its work with young people seeking careers in the industry.  

The ITT is the professional membership body for individuals employed in the travel and tourism industry. Established in 1956, the ITT is committed to raising professional standards within travel and tourism through links with education and industry as well as organising monthly regional networking evenings, golf days, farm trips, informal suppers and conferences aimed at all levels of membership, from Students to Fellows. Claire’s role at the ITT involves leading on a number of initiatives, including Skills Zone at the World Travel Market, ITT Accreditation of training programmes, industry recognition of University and College Tourism Departments, the Aspire and Future You Conferences, AA Graduate Scheme, the ITT Student Awards and the Tourism Academics and Employers Conference, organised with ABTA and The Tourism Society.

Claire represents the ITT on a number of industry committees – she is Chair of the Steering Group for the Accredited Travel Professional Scheme, a member of the Sector Skills Travel Industry Advisory Panel as well as the National Advisory Council for T&T at City and Guilds and chairs the reviewing board for the National Occupational Standards.  Since 2007 she has been actively involved with the Diploma in Travel and Tourism as Chair of the Quality Group and vice Chair of the Steering Group working closely with People 1st, GoSkills and other stakeholders.  She is currently working with the Diploma Team on Employer Engagement across the sector as well as the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust on Diploma Delivery. 

Leading organisations including TUI (UK), ABTA and The Co-operative Travel Group are represented on the Advisory Board for GTTP UK.
