LOCATION

South Africa, southern tip of the African continent

Durban is located in KwaZulu-Natal, one of the nine provinces of South Africa.  Amanzimtoti is situated along the coastal strip south of Durban (see the map above). This pretty little town is a predominantly residential area with all race groups living in harmony with each other.  The town also shares its borders with many disadvantaged communities and a few rural communities.  The town is seen as being the main provider of jobs, services such as food, etc, to the surrounding areas.

Amanzimtoti is situated  just 12 km from the Durban International Airport and is part of the greater Durban Metropolitan council.  It has recently been incorporated into the province's Unicity development.

CLIMATE

Amanzimtoti and the South Coast are known for their subtropical climate throughout the year.   Swimming can be enjoyed all year round and sea temperatures are warm, with an average temperature of 24 C in summer and 15 C in winter.

POPULATION


Under the apartheid government, Amanzimtoti was designated a white area. As a result, the town is still predominantly white, but he abolition of the Group Areas Act has ensured that more and more people of other races are moving into the area.
