Additional Activities

These activities should be completed in groups.

Interviews must be conducted with key personnel at the sporting venue during the field trip to establish reasons why the venue does not host local, national or international sporting competitions.  Before the field trip a general questionnaire can be drawn up through a mind mapping exercise conducted as a class.  The questionnaire must be handed out to each group before the field trip and should contain open ended questions which will focus on reasons why there are no sporting competitions held in the venue, or if there are why are they not conducted on a larger scale than they presently are.

Learners must go to go to their local tourism bureau for information on the various accommodation establishments in the area. They must also gather information on restaurants and other food outlets, transport facilities, curio shops and other tourist attractions of the area.  A list of all this information must be compiled and kept aside for the information brochure, which will be compiled later.

Imagine games - learners can be given a scenario of 5 000 people attending their local sporting venue for a sports event to be held there.  Learners are asked to co-ordinate the function.  The following must be taken into account:
- Capacity of the venue
- Seating
- Toilet facilities
- Advertising
- Public address systems
- Food stalls
- Manpower
- Covered seating for dignitaries
- Accommodation facilities
- Other

An entire action plan is to be drawn up with a time line and duty allocation.
