It was discovered that showers are often not used for two reasons:

The showers are usually filthy and therefore people do not want to use them for fear of catching some disease

There is no security and people are afraid in case their belongings are stolen and they are vulnerable to being attacked, raped, mugged, or worse. This lack of ground security is a major concern. There is no control of people entering or leaving the grounds. Also the possibility of people being in possession of alcohol, drugs and weapons could lead to crime.

OTHER PROBLEMS

Another problem which was identified, was that there were many spots in the area, which encouraged the loitering of vagrants. The worst of these are the derelict municipal buildings where  a rape and a murder were recently committed.

Amanzimtoti also has been stereotyped as being a dangerous town with drugs, vandalism and alcoholism being on the increase.

Many of the local residents are complacent with their existence and refuse to see sports tourism as an enterprising business opportunity for the area.  No one is prepared to take the initiative to encourage sports tourism in the area.

Very few people of the area are aware of the sporting facilities available. This leads to people from outside the town also not knowing that such facilities are available.
