GTTP Canada
The Canada Program is called the Canadian Academy of Travel & Tourism (CATT) and in 2007 it became a permanent program of the Canadian Tourism Human Resource Council (CTHRC), where CATT has been housed since 1995. CATT now receives federal government funding while continuing to be supported by the Travel & Tourism industry.
CATT’s mission is to introduce students in grades 10, 11, and 12 to careers in the tourism industry while students pursue their high school studies. Canadian high schools that offer a Travel & Tourism curriculum or would like to be offer a credit course in that area can be involved with the Academy at three different levels: Level I, Level II, and Gold, reflecting different levels of student involvement. Information on CATT enrollment numbers and completed certificates can be found on the CATT website and in their online newsletter which you can reach from the CATT site.
Materials developed by the CATT for use by GTTP member schools in other countries include: a manual for teachers to help them organize internships; a guide for creating communications links between students; and pedagogy documents and curriculum in PASSPORT.
The Canadian Tourism Human Resource Council (CTHRC) works on behalf of the 164,000 businesses that make up Canada’s vibrant tourist sector. CTHRC promotes professionalism throughout the sector and addresses key labour market issues. Collectively, Council members ands the CTHRC bring together tourism businesses, labour unions, associations, educators and governments to coordinate human resource development activities and contribute to a sustainable, globally competitive tourism sector. The Council oversees 50 national occupational standards, provides on-line and printed training tools, and sponsors Professional Recognition and Professional Certification programs.
