NOTICE RE ALDO PAPONE AWARDS FOR 2001
The purpose of the Aldo Papone Awards is to involve teachers and students in the development of high-quality case materials that can be shared among all GTTP members for use in the classroom. Each year a different topic is chosen for focus. As we established at the 2000 summer conference, the topic of the case study for this year will be "sports tourism."
The Aldo Papone Awards for 2001 will be available for all TTP programs. The awards will be given, one per country, to the school selected by the Director of each country's Travel & Tourism program to develop a case study to be put on the GTTP web site for use by all GTTP member countries. The selection process must ensure that schools in each country have an opportunity to compete for the award. How the in-country contest is administered is up to each TTP Director.
The case study that is produced by the winning school must have material for students, and a teacher's manual. The case study must be in a narrative form so that a teacher and students can use the material without having to have additional information. (For example, power point presentations or summaries can be used at conferences but are not appropriate for the final case study format.)
Nancy Kahn, Director of the US Academy of Travel & Tourism will host the 2001 conference in conjunction with an Academy of Tourism meeting November, 2001 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
The winning school in each country is invited to attend the November Conference and can send one teacher and two students. Each country team will present its case study findings.
Meals and hotel accommodations will be provided. Each country is responsible for travel costs to and from the meeting.
Aldo Papone Awards will range from $2,00 to $2,500 and can be used to support the cost of the case writing and also travel to the November conference.
Each country will also receive a Continental travel discount voucher that will give a 75% discount on one full fare ticket.
The schedule will be as follows:
November 7: Arrive NY and continue to Philadelphia or arrive directly in Philadelphia. Attendees will spend the nights of November 7,8,9, and 10 in Philadelphia. There are trains from New York to Philadelphia. We will not try to coordinate group travel from New York to Philadelphia but will supply all the necessary information.
November 11: Students and teachers then will go by bus to New York and will stay overnight in New York City. This bus trip will be provided free of charge to attendees.
November 12th. Sightseeing and then conference ends. Ideally, departure times should be scheduled for the evening of the 12th so attendees will have the morning and afternoon in NYC.
