UNITED KINGDOM

The Travel & Tourism Programme (TTP) in the United Kingdom is the national education programme of the Springboard Charitable Trust.

The objective of the TTP is to help teachers to teach more effectively courses relating to Travel & Tourism and encourage secondary students to consider a career in the industry.

The programme’s activities and services include in-service training for teachers plus curriculum related materials, case studies and guidance notes to support travel and tourism courses. For more information about Springboard’s education programme click here. The programme also maintains a website with Travel & Tourism-related information at www.resourcegateway.org.uk

In April 2008 the programme served 52,850 students in 2,595 schools in 65 cities, supported by 305 local partners and 770 companies that provided internships and other work-place experience.

Springboard activities include a three-week summer school for 16-year olds; the Future Chef Competition for 12-year old to 16-year olds; a Get Into Programme for students, and disadvantaged groups.

Students compete in the Global Travel & Tourism Partnership Research Award and attend an international student-teacher conference in Nice, France.

The Springboard Charitable Trust’s purpose is to provide education and relevant support services to help young people, the unemployed and the disadvantaged prepare for work in the hospitality, leisure, travel and tourism industry.

Springboard has its headquarters in London as well as representatives in Cardiff, Wales; in various locations in Scotland; in London and South East England; Midlands; and in the North of England.
