INSTRUCTORS

This section of the GTTP web site is intended as a resource for instructors in addition to the materials your TTP Director has provided to you. We hope you will find it helpful. Let us know, please.

Teaching Materials: PASSPORT

The GTTP has developed materials that instructors can use in their classrooms. These can be downloaded by following the links below.

In addition, the GTTP has developed an introductory global curriculum, PASSPORT TO THE WORLD; An Introduction to Travel & Tourism. PASSPORT's development was funded by our Global Partners and TTP Directors and teachers contributed to its development. This new program gives students a basic understanding of the global industry. This curriculum is very "teacher friendly" and is designed in such a way that basic concepts and global information are combined with activities that focus on the students' community or region. Students learn global concepts and how to apply them to their local communities. TTP-member schools can contact the TTP Director in their country for information on how to obtain PASSPORT.

PASSPORT is the basic curriculum in Russia and has been introduced in Brazil.

Case Studies:

The student case studies have a section for the instructor and suggestions for classroom use. These are in the Student Activities section of the site.

Preparing a case study is a great way to help students learn how to do original research and how to prepare presentations and written reports. If you are interested in having your students prepare a case study, this GTTP report will be useful: How to Write a Good Case Study Adobe Acrobat format

Links to Other Countries:

The GTTP member countries enjoy a number of collaborative projects. The Director of the Canadian TTP, Bonnie Stevens, has prepared a Guide to Links, which sets out the steps you can take to link your students to students in other countries.

Internship Manual:

Internships, or work study, are an important part of GTTP activities. Students need to be able to see what life is like in a "real" business. In some member countries, internships are paid activities and students work for months or even during an entire school year at a local business. In other countries, such an extensive internship period is not feasible. An alternative is to have unpaid, 30-hour internships which can be conducted individually or in groups.

The Internship Manual discussed how to set up 30-hour internships and has sections for parents, students, school administrators, businesses and internship supervisors:

Teachers benefit from internships as well. Click here ( Adobe Acrobat format) to view the Teacher Internship Handbook created by our Canadian TTP.

Curricula:

Each GTTP member country is different. Educational requirements vary. Some programs target students at age 14; others are directed to students in their last year of secondary school. For more information contact individual directors.

Teacher Training:

Are you interested in a workshop on teaching tourism? The Director of the Hungary TTP has developed a course on teaching travel and tourism which has been accepted by the EU Comenius/Grundtvig Catalogue of accredited courses. This means that teachers from EU countries may apply for grants at their respective national Socrates offices and get fully reimbursed.

If you are interested in attending a workshop in Hungary, please contact the Director of the Hungary TTP:
