Air Canada International and National Student Exchange

This proposal is submitted as an application to invite Air Canada to partner with the Canadian Academy of Travel & Tourism in a national and international student exchange program.

The Canadian Academy of Travel & Tourism is seeking discounted airfares that will allow these exchanges to take place. We trust you will be able to provide industry concessionary airfares to cover Air Canada costs but that will allow the pilot and expansion of the Academy student exchanges to occur.

1) Pilot Oct., 1998: BC/all Academy sites in Canada/UK student exchange (projection: 40 fares - national/ 40 fares - international) in conjunction with the Tourism Immersion ’98 Student Conference at Mt. Washington, BC

3) 2000 school year: evolving (projection: increase of 20%)

Background

Air Canada /Galileo, Amex Canada Inc. (American Express Foundation), Canadian Tourism Human Resource Council (CTHRC), CP Hotels (Canadian Pacific Charitable Foundation), Signature Vacations, the Provincial and Territorial Education Councils (i.e. Pacific Rim Institute of Tourism), association industries and businesses, and 20 schools across Canada are in partnership to introduce and promote careers in the Tourism Industry, while students pursue their high school diplomas. The Academy is a national "school without walls" functioning within existing high school education programs, grades 10, 11 and 12, where students will graduate interested in and able to pursue a career in the tourism industry.

In association with 9 other countries, the Canadian Academy of travel & Tourism is in partnership internationally with the Global Travel and Tourism Program (officially endorsed by the World Travel & Tourism Council) which is an unique collaboration between education and industry to prepare young people for the world of work in travel and tourism.

In order to respond to the future labour force demands of the Tourism Industry, the industry needs to be able to attract the brightest and most capable in the field. The Academy curriculum helps prepare our Academy students with the tools, knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to succeed in the Tourism Industry.

A key objective of the Academy is to encourage educational exchanges. This travel, for students actively pursuing a career in the travel and tourism industry, is an integral part of their preparation for future employment in the Tourism Industry.
