Peter Smith is vice president of global franchising for EnterpriseHoldings, the most comprehensive service provider and only investment-grade company in the U.S.car rental industry.
Enterprise Holdings operates Alamo Rent A Car and National Car Rental as well as its flagshipEnterprise Rent-A-Car brand. In his position, Smith oversees the company’s worldwide franchise operations and expansion efforts. He is also a member of Enterprise Holdings’ Chairman’s Task Force on Sustainability.
Enterprise Holdings and its affiliate Enterprise Fleet Management together offer a total transportation solution. Combined, these businesses – which include extensive car rental and car sharing services, commercial truck rental, corporate fleet management, and retail car sales – accounted for $15.4 billion in revenue and operated 1.3 million vehicles throughout the world in fiscal 2012. Ranked by Forbes as one of America’s Largest Private Companies, Enterprise Holdings’ revenues also place the company near the top of the travel industry.
Smith joined Enterprise in 2004 as corporate counsel. In 2007, he was appointed vice president of legal affairs, acting as lead counsel for the National and Alamo brands, a role he served until assuming his current position in 2012. Smith has aided Enterprise’s growth strategy with recent expansion efforts inChina, South America and Europe. Today, the company’s footprint includes more than 8,200 locations.
Before joining Enterprise in 2004, Smith practiced corporate and international law at the firm of Greensfelder, Hemker& Gale in St. Louis. He holds a bachelor’s degree in English from DukeUniversity and a J.D. from the University of Richmond.
He and his wife, Stacey, live in St. Louis with their three children.
